Skiing in Kitzbühel: between tradition and modernity

Hahnenkammrennen

The world's most famous ski race courses, the Streif downhill and the Ganslern slope, characterise the racing action. The FIS Ski World Cup races have been held in Kitzbühel on the Hahnenkamm every year since 1967. The Hahnenkamm races are the highlight of the annual Ski World Cup and are Austria's biggest sporting festival.
Away from the Hahnenkamm weekend, amateur skiers also have the opportunity to ski down the Streif, although the most challenging sections have been made less challenging.

Kitzbühel lies at an altitude of 800 to 2,000 metres and guarantees snow from December to April

Although the Kitzbühel ski area has no glacier and is comparatively low in altitude, first-class piste conditions can be guaranteed from December to April thanks to its favourable location, state-of-the-art snow grooming equipment and comprehensive snow management. A remarkable feature is the use of a snow deposit from the previous winter to open a groomed piste for skiing on the Resterkogel as early as the end of October. This regularly makes Kitzbühel the first non-glacier ski area in Europe to go into operation.

Thanks to the northern congestion, plenty of fresh snow falls in Kitzbühel every year. This often enables an earlier start to the winter season compared to neighbouring ski resorts. Another advantage is the existing grass cover up to an altitude of 2,000 metres, which means that even a relatively thin layer of snow is sufficient to prepare the pistes. The ski area therefore offers winter sports enthusiasts up to 180 days of guaranteed snow.

Kitzbühel inspires with action in the fun park and at night

There are two snow parks available in the ski area: The Kitzbühel Snowpark, located on the Hanglalm in the southern part of the ski area, is primarily aimed at advanced and expert riders. It offers a variety of obstacles such as boxes, jibs, jumps and rails. The Horn Snowpark, located on the Kitzbüheler Horn, also offers a wide range of different obstacles. In addition, the Audi quattro funslope and the KitzSki Family Park allow you to explore numerous playgrounds, including cliffs, chutes, hidden treeruns, wave runners and marvellous powder slopes, as well as numerous kicker spots.

Kitzbühel also has a lot to offer away from the slopes

In Kitzbühel, winter sports enthusiasts can also enjoy a wide range of activities away from the pistes. There are over 60 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails within Kitzbühel and a network of more than 500 kilometres of trails throughout the region. This includes a snow-sure high-altitude trail as well as a floodlit sports trail. An excellent natural toboggan run with a length of 3.5 kilometres also awaits you on the Gaisberg. Night tobogganing is offered here from Tuesday to Saturday between 18:30 and 21:30. There are also numerous winter hiking trails in and around Kitzbühel, and free guided hikes and snowshoe hikes are offered. The Schwarzsee lake between Kitzbühel and Kirchberg is also a worthwhile excursion destination, which can be explored on a leisurely winter hike around the lake.

The exclusive nightlife in Kitzbühel

The evenings in Kitzbühel are famous: for decades, the international jet set has perfected the art of stylish après-ski in the Gamsstadt after a day on the piste. This tradition continues to this day.
During the winter, you can round off the day on the piste in one of the rustic huts with cool DJ sounds or hip live music. Alternatively, you can enjoy the evening with a signature cocktail in one of the elegant bars in the town. On mild summer nights, numerous bars and restaurants with Mediterranean terraces invite you to enjoy an aperitif. A varied entertainment programme ensures exciting evenings in the city centre. Here we present the hottest bars and clubs in Kitzbühel.
